top iphone apps in general
similar to above with in app purchases ..
In general, location based services or photo services are profit making offerings in this space. As well known by now, the app in order to make money needs to be in iOS. It is okay to have iOS only app too. Android is strictly optional and is mainly for user adoption. Or maybe monitizing using location and ads. But it hardly breaks even. While iOS in general is vastly more profitable platform.
The strategy employed is similar where there is a version of free apps that take something in exchange like location or access to contacts or photos (Creep alert!) or a cleaner paid version typically in the 0.99 or 1.99 range.
Note: spy app like the anti kidnapping location tracker app is good .. also pair it with gadgets which will auto detect wifis and pass on the info. There are not much good tools in this space.
